Amat. is well-aware that, as a service company, its employees are its most valuable asset. However, for historic reasons and its corporate policy, at the end of the sixties, at a time when companies needed to prove they could be managed by WOMEN, it was decided to only recruit women and there are now almost fifty in the whole Group.
Now at the time when we are celebrating the company’s 60th anniversary and with a commitment to fulfil the Equal Opportunities Act, we think the time has come to change this corporate policy. Therefore, from the beginning of the year, we decided to choose the “best professionals”, whether male or female, to collaborate with us.
It is not an easy task to find suitable staff that have the required professional knowledge, the commitment we seek and, above all, the company’s vision and values. We are therefore continually holding employee selection processes.
However, the work of human resources does not end there, nowadays the field of property management and intermediation is so complicated that if we want to provide a high quality service we need to employ highly qualified staff in our organisational chart: lawyers, economists and graduates from various fields and ensure that they are all convinced ongoing training is absolutely necessary, as well as being a motivating element for personal and professional growth. Therefore, the efforts made by Amat. in staff training represent 10% of the human resources budget.
Finally, the FEMALE option has allowed Amat. to obtain wide experience in seeking compatibility options for work-family combinations, such as the following:
. Holiday periods at the same time as the school holidays: a week at Christmas, a week at Easter, all the long weekends scheduled in the labour calendar and four weeks in August.
. Allowing them to “work-from-home” in order to care for an elderly and/or sick relative.
. Allowing them to leave early (for breastfeeding) during the baby’s first year and shorter working hours for the first six years, as stipulated by law.
. Allowing a new mother to change her Property Management Department so that she can attend the community meetings that are usually held in the afternoon.
